ALDERSON
James Alderson was from Yorkshire . He moved with his wife to Benton in Lafayette County, close to where other family members had settled.
ALTON & COTTINGHAM
William Alton and his wife Esther (nee Cottingham) left Yorkshire around 1861 with their family. They sailed to New York and then made the lengthy journey to Benton Township in Wisconsin. Other close relations also lived here.
CRAWHALL
Born in Wisconsin in 1885, Lester Crawhall had moved to Iowa by 1900. His father was also born Wisconsin, with the previous generation probably being from County Durham in England.
EUDEY
Mary Ann Eudey was born in Cornwall but grew up in America. Married twice, she eventually moved to Wisconsin, dying at the age of 93 in 1913.
HUNTER
William Henry Hunter moved from Canada to Wisconsin where he met the Collingwood family from northern England. He married Cecilia Collingwood in 1867 in Dodgeville, the couple having family of seven children, as far as has been traced.
METCALFE
The mother of Lester Crawhall was Margaret Metcalf from Yorkshire, England. Margaret travelled to the USA with her parents when a young child and had siblings Joseph, Rosie and Elizabeth born in Wisconsin. Once settled, the family remained, further generations having been traced. Margaret’s parents were Lister and his second wife, Elizabeth. This was Lister’s second attempt to settle in Wisconsin.
TAIT
Brothers Lawrence, Leonard and Keith Tait were born in Wisconsin in the 1920s. Their ancestry traces back through other states to a family from Northumberland, England.
TWENTYMAN
Mary Harriett Twentyman was born in Wisconsin around 1852 when her parents emigrated to the USA but decided to return to England. Those parents came from Cumberland and Lancashire.
