CHADWICK

Robert Chadwick was born in 1876 in Lancashire, England but moved to the United States where he married Madge Denny.  Children Helen and Paul were born to the couple before Robert’s early death in 1913.  Madge then married Robert’s brother, John.  The Chadwicks have been traced to the mid 18th Century.

DOWNEN & EDWARDS

Gladys Zella Downen was born in 1898 in Marion, Illinois.  She was another American girl who married into the Moffat family  -   the second wife of Robert Edward Moffat, his first having been Henrietta Clyde Edwards, also from this state.

EADINGTON

A recent  find was the death of William Eadington in Illinois in 1897.  He came from England and we think he may be from Northumberland.  Still work to be done to identify him exactly.

FOSSETT

Helen Amanda Fossett was born in 1889, the daughter of Pleasant and Susan.  She married George Fell from England.

GLADDERS

A rarely found surname in England,  many can be linked to County Durham.  William left that place in 1893 and made his home in Illinois.  He married Elizabeth Lamb and they are thought to have had two children before 1900.  Also in this state was Luke Gladders, the brother of William whose children were Bess, Luke, Walter, Harriet and Warren

GOLIGHTLY

Eleanor Bolam married William Golightly  in 1849 in England.  In 1852 the couple left England with their son, George, and eventually settled in La Salle and then Du Quoin, Illinois.

GRAY

Thomas and Hanna Gray moved with their young son from the north east of England to Chicago around 1893, Thomas working as a coal miner as he had back in England.  They remained there until just after 1900 during which years Elizabeth, James, Maud, George and John Edward were born.  The family then returned to England.

HANSELMAN

Isabell Hanselman was born in 1872 in Springfield.  She married Simpson Walker who came from County Durham, the couple eventually moving to Los Angeles.

HOUSTON

Robert and Agnes Houston and their daughter Margaret left Scotland arriving in Illinois before 1878,  Four further children - Robert, Myrtle, Eva and Jan - were born.  Daughter Margaret married into the Moffat family.

KASPER

Jerome Kasper was born in Illinois in 1911.  He married Anne Caisley Mills  who was born in Indiana but had English heritage.

MACDONALD

Edward George MacDonald and his wife Elizabeth made the sea journey to America in 1905, their new home being Chicago.  As far as can be known, Elizabeth and their daughter returned to England, but the men of the family have yet to be traced.

MILLS

Brothers William and Frederick Mills were born in England in the 1870s and emigrated when young to work in the coal mines of Illinois and surrounding states.  William moved in Indiana, while Frederick seems to have spent more years in Illinois.  Both of the brothers had families.

MOFFAT

The Moffat family is related to us through connections to Northumberland and Cumberland.  The descendants of Thomas and Alice Moffat are too extensive to list here, but we would be pleased to provide more information.  Many appear to have remained in Illinois.

PEARSON

John Henry Pearson,a  coal miner, took his family from the north east of England to Illinois sometime just before 1920.  He and his wife Elizabeth had two further children, Archie and Grace who were born in the early 1920s.

REDHEAD & SEARJEANT

In one family history we researched, the story came to light of Daniel and Jane Redhead who emigrated to Chicago to claim land on the death of Jane’s uncle, first name unknown but with the surname Searjeant.  This was not successful and the couple moved on to New Orleans.  Does anyone know anything of this story?  Daniel died and Jane returned to England with their children.

VOSE

Thomas, who was from England, married Agnes Fell, one of our relations, in 1871 in Illinois.  To date we have five children for this couple - James, Anna, Mary, Elizabeth and Alice.  There are still some puzzles to resolve about this family.

WALKER

Born in England, Smart Walker was, by 1870, a farmer in Iroquois County, Illinois.  He had married local girl Tryphoena Ticknor, the couple having children Mary Ann, Harriett Alice and Jesse.  Smart and Tryphoena eventually moved to Long Beach, California.

WILSON

It appears that Michael Wilson and his wife Sarah, nee Drury, emigrated in the late 1840s  coming originally from the North of England.
